Nick Nemeth and Jamie Flores: Leading with Integrity to Build a Respected Reputation in Tax Resolution

Nick Nemeth, Founder & Attorney, and Jamie Flores, Managing Attorney at the Law Offices of Nick Nemeth P.L.L.C., are a dynamic duo transforming the world of tax law while redefining what it means to lead with heart.

Nick, the founder and an experienced lawyer, established the firm from the ground up using his business acumen, marketing instincts, big-picture thinking, and unwavering commitment to build a multi-office practice, ensuring the firm functions smoothly while coaching a new generation of legal professionals.

Jamie, a force of organization and vitality, helped turn the firm into a thriving business while juggling client care, employee training, and operational oversight with a busy family life – four kids, a farm, and an expanding menagerie of animals. As the lifeblood of the firm, she helps clients feel truly cared for, skillfully balancing numerous responsibilities with empathy and accuracy. As she says, “Nick planted the seed, and now it’s grown into a tree with many branches.”

Together, Nick and Jamie blend professionalism and empathy with a deep knowledge of the IRS Tax Law. With over 37 years of combined experience in resolving IRS tax issues, they facilitate favorable outcomes for their clients by helping them successfully navigate IRS tax-related problems.

Defining Success Through Family, Career, and Impact

Reflecting on his career path, Nick recalls how success was first about raising his kids as a single dad and making sure they became productive members of society. Today, success for him is about maintaining the firm’s standards and continuing to help clients with IRS problems.

Success for Jamie is being a good parent to her four kids and a role model, showing them that moms can have powerful jobs and that hard work and persistence pay off. “I went back to school after having kids to become an attorney so I could help people with IRS problems. Being a wife, mother, and mentor to other women is also an important part of my success,” she says.

From Unexpected Beginnings to a Shared Passion for Tax Law

Describing the pivotal moment that led him to his current role in tax law, Nick admits that his initial career aspirations included dental school and business ventures before finding his passion in law. “It wasn’t something I always wanted to do. I originally planned to be a dentist, even got into dental school, but realized it wasn’t for me. After struggling in business for a few years, I saw a billboard for the DFW School of Law and thought, ‘Why not?’ That was my epiphany. I didn’t start with a passion for law, but I’ve grown into it,” he recalls.

Jamie grew up in a small town and always wanted to work in criminal justice, so she joined the Dallas Police Department as soon as she was old enough. “It turned out not to be for me, which was difficult since it was all I had ever wanted. I went back to school, earned a master’s in education, and homeschooled my children, especially after discovering our oldest had dyslexia,” she shares.

Despite her doubts about being qualified enough, the legal field kept calling to her. Finally, with her husband’s push, Jamie took the Law School Admissions Test, got into law school, and found her path in tax law, eventually leading her to Nick’s firm.

Building a Tax Law Partnership on Balance and Impact

Nick went from personal injury law to tax law, finding fulfillment in helping clients with IRS problems. “Unlike personal injury, where clients are often disappointed, most tax clients are genuinely relieved and happy with the outcome,” he shares. Jamie felt she could make a real impact in tax law, giving people peace of mind when going up against a powerful government agency that can take everything from them.

Nick and Jamie have very different personalities, but they communicate well, balancing each other, deferring to each other’s strengths, and working through challenges to drive the firm’s growth. When their paths merged, Nick was able to better focus on clients, listening and explaining potential solutions, while Jamie managed the attorneys, worked with the IRS, and educated clients to lessen their overwhelming fears of the IRS.

Being a woman in a male-dominated field never held Jamie back. “If someone expects a male lawyer, I set boundaries, focus on their problem, and show them they’re in the right place,” she states. While bias still exists, clients learn that what matters is having the right mind to solve their problems. Nick likens Jamie to the “firm mom,” guiding the attorneys and staff and keeping everything running smoothly.

The firm has seen tremendous growth in the last five years, with more employees and cases, and an evolution in operations. Jamie brought major changes that strengthened the practice, and they built a strong reputation for doing good work at a fair price, with excellent reviews and respect from even local IRS officials.

Balancing Technology and Personalized Client Care

On the importance of balancing technology with personalized client service, Jamie notes that AI is a helpful resource for efficiency, as research that once required law libraries is now available instantly, but it can’t replace an attorney’s knowledge and judgment. The IRS, slow to adopt technology, makes it harder for taxpayers to get answers, bringing more people to the firm for help.

Nick highlights their paperless office and reliance on modern tools. “I’m 20 years older than Jamie, so I defer to her on technology. She modernized our office, making us fully paperless – changes I resisted at first. It’s another example of how we rely on each other’s strengths,” he observes.

Building a Strong Reputation Through Integrity and Client-Centered Service

Nick sees competition as an opportunity to innovate and improve their services, and “less of a threat and more of a motivator,” viewing it as validation when competitors mirror their approach. His commitment to honesty is a defining strength, with the firm’s business built on transparency, giving clients realistic guidance unlike the promises of “pennies on the dollar” that saturate TV ads. If someone doesn’t qualify for a program, they’re told the truth – no money is taken under false pretenses.

For Jamie, the sheer demand for help, especially in the DFW area, makes competition almost irrelevant. “The need is so great that there’s more than enough work to go around. Where national companies chase numbers, our focus remains on personalized service. The goal isn’t simply to sign clients but to set people up for long-term stability,” she affirms.

Nick recalls a client who lost his family business due to IRS issues and later hired them to resolve personal tax problems. He gave them a great review that reinforced their approach to honest advice. Jamie recounts a case where they saved a small business owner’s ranch and business from IRS seizure, reaching a win-win agreement for all.

In some cases, individuals walk away from a consultation with a step-by-step plan to solve their issues on their own. In fact, the most positive reviews come from people who never hired the firm, but appreciated the advice they received to solve their problems independently. Far from seeing this as a loss, Jamie views it as a marker of integrity and trust, a philosophy that has fueled the firm’s reputation, which works in their clients’ favor during IRS negotiations.

Taking Pride in Resilience and Impact

Nick takes pride in the firm’s resilience and success during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. His main concern was to ensure their clients still knew they were available. The firm emerged from COVID prepared to work on the IRS’s backlog of all the cases they are catching up on. “I’m very proud of how we handled that, how we supported our clients through it, and how we were ready for those who came to us immediately afterward,” he declares.

Jamie finds her greatest fulfillment in mentoring and educating others, both within the firm and in the broader legal community. “For me, that’s the greatest achievement: not only fixing problems for clients, but educating our team and clients so they stay in compliance and don’t have these issues again. That’s what makes me feel good about what we’re doing,” she says.

Balancing Family, Legacy, and Ambition

Both Jamie and Nick emphasize the importance of family, but Nick humorously notes his lack of a personal life as an empty nester, contrasting with Jamie’s busy family life. “My kids are grown, I’m an empty nester. No wife, no kids at home, so it’s easy for me. Now Jamie – four kids, a farm, a husband… I don’t even ask. I’ll defer to her,” he quips.

For Jamie, everything is about balance. “Family is number one for me, and what I love about working here is that Nick understands that. But we also treat our clients like family. Sometimes they cry, sometimes they hug you – it’s because they know we care,” she shares. While Nick’s not a hugger, he finds helping clients rewarding and is focused on his legacy. “My son’s in law school, and I’d love for him to continue this work alongside Jamie or even one of her kids. That’s my focus – the next phase and keeping this place going,” he reflects.

Jamie hopes to influence a change in the next generation – law students, undergrads, even high schoolers – by mentoring them on how tax touches everything, including real estate, wills and trusts, the financial industry, and small business formation. “If we can reach people early with education, conferences, and seminars, they’ll have the resources they need to succeed and avoid future problems,” she notes.

Jamie also hopes to build an empire to show everyone that “your past doesn’t define you” and inspire young attorneys and students to pursue careers in tax and related fields. “It doesn’t matter if you had money or not, male or female – what matters is your mindset. If you want something, you work hard, no excuses. That drive pushes me every day – to serve clients, run the firm, and keep building, whether it’s here or on the farm. It’s all part of the same vision.”

Nick shares Jamie’s vision of growth. “The more offices we open, the more people we hire and train, the more clients we can help. Years ago, we were helping 20 people a month. That grew to 50, then 100, and it keeps climbing,” he adds. Jamie notes that the bigger they grow, the more they can give back. “We already do a lot for veterans, police, firefighters, and teachers. For me, it’s not just about expanding, but using that growth to reach and help even more people who are struggling,” she says.

To make it all work, they built a room at the office with bunk beds so Jamie’s kids can homeschool and have her around if she works late. Her husband, retired from the Dallas Police Department, came onboard to help the firm grow because he believes in the vision and the firms future. “At home, there’s schoolwork, dinner, and a farm full of animals waiting. It definitely takes a village – at home and at work,” Jamie remarks. This arrangement helps them serve clients from early morning to early evening – something most law firms don’t do.

Guiding the Next Generation of Legal Leaders

Nick’s most important advice for young people hoping to get into legal careers comes down to just two words: Work ethic. He’s taught his high-achieving sons – one in law school, the other working on a doctoral degree in Hawaii – that nothing comes easy, and hopes to model the value of hard work for the next generation. He shares these words of wisdom for aspiring leaders: “Don’t be afraid to pivot. You’ll hit roadblocks – don’t crawl into a corner and hide. Figure out a way around them. Success isn’t an eight-to-four job. You have to put in the hours, the sacrifice. That’s what it takes.”

Jamie adds: “Dedication, resilience, humility. Too many young attorneys come in thinking they’re on top of the world just because they have a degree. But real success comes from being human – listening, showing compassion. Sometimes clients just want to be heard. You can see the weight lift off when they feel someone genuinely cares.” Nick agrees, emphasizing that he often tells his team to treat clients as if they were their own family. “Pretend the client is your mom coming from the doctor with bad news. You put your arm around her and say, ‘We’ll work this out together.’ That compassion is what sets us apart,” he reflects.

Conclusion

Nick Nemeth and Jamie Flores embody the spirit of resilience and dedication, having overcome numerous challenges to lead their law firm to success with experience, integrity, empathy, and hard work to create the best outcomes for their clients. With his strategic vision, Nick is the head of the firm, while Jamie, with her commitment to clients, her team, and the mission of the firm, is the heart. Their success is measured not only by the cases they settle but by the lives they change, the lessons they teach, and the legacy they leave for future generations.
