Accelerating the comeback of NSIA Assurances CI on the Ivorian insurance market

Africa's 10 Most Empowering Business Leaders to Follow in 2025

The insurance sector in Africa is on the brink of unprecedented growth, driven by visionary young leaders who are transforming the industry with passion and determination. Among them is Magloire Dochamou, Managing Director of NSIA Assurances Côte d’Ivoire, a committed leader focused on innovation and placing customers at the heart of his priorities. With his forward-thinking approach, he aims, alongside a team of young professionals, to accelerate NSIA Assurance CI’s comeback within the framework of the new strategic plan for the Insurance division, setting new standards of excellence and growth.Recognized for his rigor, passion for structuring, and ambition, Magloire is also appreciated for his humility, a quality that makes him accessible and open to new ideas. These traits have earned him the respect of his colleagues, partners, and clients. After 20 years in the field, he has received the prestigious Honoris Causa award, recognizing his years of expertise, resilience, and dedication.

The Influence of an Uncle Led to a Career in Insurance

Magloire’s late father wanted him to join the military academy, like many young people of his generation. Later, his good grades in biology seemed to pave the way for a medical career. However, a simple twist of fate led him to the insurance sector.

“I chose insurance because I was fascinated by my uncle, Félix Chabi Adimi, one of the first insurance professionals in Benin,” Magloire shares. “He was trained at ENASS in Paris and graduated from the Centre des Hautes Études d’Assurances (CHEA).”

After high school, Magloire often saw his uncle visiting the family, always impeccably dressed, leaving a strong impression on him. Inspired, he finally told his father that he wanted to follow in his uncle’s footsteps. This marked the beginning of his insurance journey, starting with inquiries at the Insurance Directorate. These steps led him to take the entrance exam for the Institut International des Assurances (IIA) in Yaoundé, where he graduated top of his class in 2004.

“For nearly 20 years, I have worked in this wonderful field of insurance, gaining invaluable life experiences,” Magloire explains. “I thank God for what I have become and express my gratitude to my parents, who invested their last savings in my education at IIA. My thanks also go to President Jean Kacou DIAGOU and his entire family for the opportunity to contribute alongside him to the development of the NSIA Group.”

Excelling in a Competitive Environment

A graduate of the University of Abomey-Calavi (Benin), the Institut International des Assurances (IIA) in Yaoundé (Cameroon), and the Institut Universitaire d’Abidjan (Ivory Coast), Magloire recalls his university years as a challenging time.

“Attending classes, taking the bus, having lunch—nothing was simple,” he remembers. During his first year, the lecture hall had 4,000 students, and persistence was required to attend classes. At the end of the first session, he was among the 120 admitted students and one of the few to receive a scholarship.

These challenges shaped him and helped him maintain resilience until he earned his Master’s in Finance. This journey also mentally prepared him to excel at IIA, where he learned insurance techniques. The institute brought together the best students from 14 Central and West African countries, creating fierce competition.

“I had extraordinary moments with my peers from these countries, and I am proud to have been part of IIA,” he shares. For him, this experience shaped his life, allowing him not only to enter the professional world but also to contribute to the economic and social development of the continent.

A Rewarding Career at Every Stage

For Magloire, every moment of his career has been fulfilling. “I thank God for this gift,” he says. “I also thank my parents, my late father Nestor Chabi DOCHAMOU (may his soul rest in peace), and my mother KEGNIDE Mariam, for allowing me to study insurance.”

A significant moment in his career was his return in 2019 as Managing Director of NSIA Vie Bénin after being abruptly dismissed by a former employer. He describes this period as one of the most challenging in his personal and professional life.

“I overcame it with calm, determination, and seriousness,” he explains. “At no point did I doubt the outcome, and events proved me right.” He won his case, regained his rights, and joined the prestigious NSIA Group, where he now leads the largest non-life subsidiary.

As a reminder, NSIA Assurances is the first subsidiary of the NSIA Group in terms of creation, with 24,264 million in issued premiums in 2024. This magnificent achievement of President Jean Kacou DIAGOU celebrated its 30th anniversary this year, making all of Africa proud.

A Strategic Vision and Concrete Solutions

Under his leadership, NSIA Assurances has adopted a strategic plan called OURAGAN DDM2030, aiming to position the company among the top three in the Ivorian market in terms of revenue.

In 2024, thanks to his leadership, NSIA Assurances secured its position in the top five of the market. “We hope to consolidate this position by the end of 2025 and continue our ascent,” he affirms.

Balancing Professional and Personal Life

Despite a busy schedule, Magloire manages to balance work and personal life. “I understood early on that my ambitions required a stable family life,” he says. Married, he and his wife form a complementary duo that allows him to focus on his work while remaining present for his family.

Staying Competitive in the Insurance Industry

Magloire points out that many people take out insurance policies out of obligation. NSIA Assurances, therefore, strives to improve service quality and innovate with tailored products, such as NSIA AUTO CASH and NSIA Auto+, which address specific needs.

NSIA AUTO CASH allows, under certain conditions, the compensation of minor claims within 90 minutes. NSIA Auto+ covers damages sustained by vehicles aged 5 to 10 years, which were previously excluded from this type of coverage.

Supporting Young Professionals

Under his leadership, NSIA Assurances has rejuvenated its workforce and implemented programs to train and integrate young people into the insurance industry, providing them with income and career opportunities.

Magloire Dochamou’s Legacy

Magloire aspires to leave behind a legacy of transformation: inclusive, innovative insurance focused on customer satisfaction. According to him, the future of the insurance industry lies in the collective reflection of ecosystem players on concrete actions to be taken, as he states in his previous book, ET SI ON S’ASSURAIT TOUS.

“My goal is for NSIA Assurances to be a model where trust, efficiency, and social responsibility prevail,” he concludes.
